Leave Loom: A Memory
Jennifer Scappettone
Mixed media on timber and between fingers, 2014-present
An amalgam of curiosity, compulsion, blood history, and ecopanic has had Scappettone consistently reaping the language of her garbage since October 2014 and writing, in tandem, a line of verse to document the passage of each day. Trash, as sheer lumpen mass, balks eloquence, but its semantic and antisemantic values can and must be recovered. As a hermetic edition of environments designed in prior years for performance with dancers, Leave Loom will slowly weave a kinetic stanza of the voices of seduction and guile spawned and fast quieted by the hunger of capital—and by its obsolete canticles of consumption.
