Please note that Lauren Ash is unable to participate in today’s panel; Romi Crawford, Amber Ginsburg, and Jennifer Scappettone have joined the panel.

Art & Care as Resistance & Love, a panel with Lauren Berlant (English), Romi Crawford (SAIC, Visual and Critical Studies and Liberal Arts), Amber Ginsburg (Visual Arts), Laura Letinsky (Visual Arts), Karen Reimer (MFA ’89; School of the Art Institute of Chicago), and Jennifer Scappettone (English).

This panel will explore feminism, the domestic, and the intimate as resources for world-making. We will hear about and discuss the panelists’ work on rethinking the relation between militancy and vulnerability; making virtual space for life that doesn’t have actual space for flourishing; making art that revalues craft and working class taste.

Additionally panelists will discuss questions such as: If we refuse to reproduce sophistication as self-evidently good but resist authenticity too, what affect worlds are we making for women, for feminism, for intimacy? If we are rethinking domesticity and intimacy, are we rethinking what it means to show care? If we are rethinking the relation between forms of art and forms of life, are we rethinking what it means to repair?  Does “the personal is the political” still mean what it has meant, is it generating new figures and projects?

Free and open to the public. #CareAtChicago
